Write quietly and slowly about the things you feel deeply.
The prompts on the Quiet Writing Map will inspire you to bring greater awareness and daring to your writing life. Through writing about ourselves we increase our awareness of how our minds work, and so enhance our ability to create resonant fictional characters.
Many of these writing exercises suggest ways to use your personal stories to create vibrant and liberating fiction. Explore the sound of your writing, write sweaty, and describe the changes seen from a window. These creative writing prompts will inspire you to bring focus to your writing, find ways to write about anxiety and pain in fiction and memoir, and play with jibberish and gobbledygook to stop making sense!
Like all art and mindful pursuits, writing is a practice. Through writing, we observe and record the complexity and wonder of our being. The Quiet Writing Map will suggest writerly ways to celebrate your emotions, imagination and memory whether you're writing fiction, poetry or autobiography.
The Writing Map is devised and written by Shaun Levin with illustrations by Valero Doval. The A3 map (297x420mm) folds down to A6 (105x148mm, postcard size), and is printed on 170gsm paper in England.
